BARRE, VT and VENICE, FL - Norma Jean LeRoy, 71, of Abalone Road, Venice, FL, passed away Thursday, May 27, 2004, at the Woodridge Nursing Home in Berlin, VT. Prior to her admission to the nursing home, she and her husband, Floyd, had spent the many months of her illness at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Mary Anne and Ronald Parnigoni in Barre Town.
Born October 21, 1932, in Richmond, ME, she was the daughter of the late John and Nellie (Libby) McCormick. She graduated from Richmond High School in 1950 and from the University of Maine at Orono in 1955 with a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, having affiliated at the Maine Medical Center School of Nursing in Portland, ME.
She had been employed at the Maine Medical Center in Portland, the Barre City Hospital, and the Central Vermont Hospital in Berlin as well as the Vermont State Hospital in Waterbury. She had been a volunteer at the Green Butterfly Benefit Shop for the Handicapped in Venice, FL.
In 1955, she married David Butterfield of Hawthorne, NJ and to them were born four children. They divorced. She later married Frederick Prevost of Waterbury, VT who passed away in 1978.
On July 31, 1981, she married Floyd LeRoy of Barre, VT. Shortly afterward, they moved to Venice, FL where they have since resided. She became a member of the South Venice Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Floyd; her children, Traci Block and her husband, Jonathan of Portland, ME, David Butterfield of Barre, VT, John Butterfield and his wife, Jessica of Vernon, VT, and Eric Butterfield of Springfield, VA; her grandchildren, Nellie Block of Portland, ME, Kayleigh, David, Sean, and Sarah Butterfield of Vernon, VT, and Paige Butterfield of Springfield, VA; her step-daughter, Mary Anne Parnigoni and her husband, Ronald of Barre Town, with whom she and Floyd made their home when visiting from Florida; their children, Cara Dunn and her husband, Jeff of Waterbury, VT and Kimberly Jones and her husband, Brant of Buford, GA; her step-son, John LeRoy and his wife, Linda of Barre, VT; their children, Heather Henderson of Connecticut and Tamara LeRoy of Colorado; as well as four great-grandchildren, Christian and Justin Dunn, Madison Henderson and Elena Jones; a sister, Louise Smith Cooper and her husband, Wilber and a sister-in-law, Mary Smith, all of Richmond, ME; an aunt, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many, many best friends in the world also survive.
She was predeceased by her brother, Oscar Smith in 2000.
Her funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 1, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. in the Hedding United Methodist Church in Barre. Burial will be made in the Berlin Corner Cemetery. Friends may call at the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre on Monday From 7 to 9 p.m.
