Mrs. Alverda Jane Johnston, 75, passed away at her home, 704 W. Main Cross, Palmyra, May 9, 1961, at 3 a.m. She had been in failing health for some time.
Funeral services will be at Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel this afternoon, Thursday, May 11, at 2:00 o'clock DST. The rites will be conducted by the Rev. W. E. Sutterfield. pastor of the First Baptist Church. Interment will be in Grand View Burial Park, Hannibal.
James CHATFIELD, Gary Lake, Ronnie Schaller, Emmett Bremmer, Bill Potterfield, and Donald Lugena will serve as casket bearers.
A daughter of the late William and Amanda Dicks Moore, Alverda Jane Moore was born in Harrison County, Ohio, June 5 1885. Her marriage to Elmer Johnston took place in Paris, Mo., December 23, 1909. She was affiliated with the Methodist Church. Mrs. Johnston had resided in this community for the last 26 years.
Surviving are her husband, Elmer Johnston; five daughters, Mrs. Bernard Owsley, Hannibal, Mrs. Russel CHATFIELD, Philadelphia, Mrs. Henry Potterfield, Mrs. Daniel Potterfield and Mrs. William Vance, all of Palmyra; 19 grandchildren, two brothers, B. M. Moore, Homestead, Fla. and Harry Moore, Mexico, Mo.; four sisters, Mrs. Ed Yochum and Mrs. Kate Messick, Mrs. Lula Sounders and Mrs, Jim Rogers, all of Hannibal.
