Johann has his mother’s surname. His parents never married due to cost of marriage in Germany I am told. His father was a stone cutter and died young from complications of his trade, according to family history. Surname unknown. His mother Christine is buried in Germany as Zimmerman as she eventually married a Zimmerman. The Buehler surname being the mother’s maiden name was never known until after WW2 when a Buehler serving overseas tried to track the family roots. It was a complete surprise to the American branch.
