Mrs. Louisa Ottman of this city, after an illness of two years, passed away last Friday at the home of daughter, Mrs. H. J. Turner, aged 71 years.
Louisa Ousterhaut was born in Mayfield in 1838 and at the time of her decease was perhaps the oldest person born in that township. She was the daughter of Albert and Mary Stark Ousterhaut, pioneers, who came here in 1837. He died 1845 while on a visit to his old home in Pennsylvania, leaving his wife and four children, the subject of this sketch, Mrs. Gifford Atwood, John and Frank. The boys moved to Nebraska where the latter, a soldier of the 105th Illinois infantry, died in 1907. Mrs. Ousterhaut married Mace McClellan in 1849 and by this marriage seven children were born, Byron, Elza, and James McClellan. Two boys died in infancy. The daughters are Mrs. James Brown and Alice Buck. Louisa at the age of 17 married G. H. Dennis and to them were born six children: Fremont, Mrs. Nettie Turner, Mrs. Mary Smith, all residents of Sycamore. The three younger children, Carrie, Mina and Amos are deceased.
About twenty-five years ago she became the wife of Wesley Ottman, and who with the three named above and fifteen grandchildren survive. There were no children by her second marriage. Mrs. Ottman spent all her life in Mayfield and never lived outside DeKalb County.
She united with the Methodist Church in early life, was a gifted singer.
The funeral was held Sunday at the Turner home, Dr.Brushingham officiating.
