Mildred M. Buttikofer, 88, of 2099 Elm St., died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2007.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be in Dubuque Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Hoffmann-Schneider Funeral Home, 1640 Main St., where there will be a wake service at 4 p.m.
She was born on March 30, 1919, in Farley, daughter of William and Margaret (Elliott) Franklin.
She married Harold C. Chatfield on Nov. 20, 1938, in Dubuque; he preceded her in death on March 4, 1948. She then married Herman A. Buttikofer on Jan. 28, 1951, in Dubuque; he preceded her in death on July 25, 1989.
She was employed at the Dubuque Battery Factory but spent most of her time as a homemaker.
Mildred was a Veterans of Foreign Wars Gold Star Mother.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish.
She was a participant at Stonehill Adult Center where she enjoyed playing euchre. She loved playing bingo, keeping informed about the lives of her grandchildren, spending time with her cat "Sammie" and watching her soaps.
Surviving are four sons, Dennis (Linda) CHATFIELD, of Tuscola, Ill., David (Roseann) CHATFIELD, of Dubuque, Daryl Buttikofer, with whom she resided, and Doug (Georgiana) Buttikofer, of Fairfield; four daughters, Donna (Joe) Morin, of Aurora, Colo., Darlene Burds (Roger Thiede), of Peosta, Diana (Robert) Sobotka, of Las Cruces, N.M., and Marcia (Kenneth) Hoeger, of Manchester; 27 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and a special niece, Janet Roth.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Dale Chatfield and Daniel Chatfield; a daughter, Mary Buttikofer; a granddaughter, Sandy Burds; two brothers, Johnny and Francis Elliott; and two sisters, Rita Elliott, and Julia McCurdy.
