Born in Litchfield, CT. As a young man, moved to New Haven, CT where he became interested in the new field of photography. He was taking pictures, including ambrotypes and stereopticon views, by the late 1860s, and continued as a professional photographer until sometime after 1900. Several of his plates are owned by his Filley grandchildren, and several of his photographs were reproduced in a book, “This is Connecticut” – a collection of early photographs taken in the state.
