Death record states date of death as December 23, 1928 with an age of 87y 4m 23d for a calculated dob of July 30, 1841, however several documents estimate his dob as 1843 or 1844.
Alfred was a carpenter and builder living on Road 54 in West Rochester (Child's, p. 621).
Alfred married three times: Ada Russell, daughter of Charles Russell and Ada Cross, in Starksboro, VT on May 29, 1869; Lilla B Gove, daughter of Aaron B Gove and Evelyn Root, in Hancock, VT on March 7, 1896; Alice Stevens, daughter of Asa Stevens and Deborah Beckhorn, in Licoln, VT on August 1, 1900.
He had been a member of the Seventh Vermont and served in the Department of the Gulf until the close of the War. Swinyer initially enlisted at age 17 on December 16, 1861, mustering in on February 12, 1862 into Co. E, 7th VVI out of Hinesburg. He mustered out October 15, 1862. He re-enlisted at age 21 on August 5, 1864 mustering into Co. K, 7th VVI out of Hinesburg. He mustered out July 14, 1865.
The Swinyer family sent eight sons to the Civil War. Not only did all return, but also they lived at least forty-three years after the war's end
