Bakus, Donald R. Bay City, Michigan Mr. Bakus passed away Tuesday morning, August, 23, 2016 at Mc Laren Bay Region. Age 90 years. The son of the late John Walter and Wave E. (Wright) Bakus was born December 30, 1925 in Bay City, MI. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Frankenlust. Mr. Bakus retired from Consumers Power Co. He enjoyed competitive shooting, was a member of the Bay City Rifle Club for many years and also enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking and making toys. He proudly served his county in the U.S. Navy during W.W. II.
Left behind to cherish his memories is his wife, Gwendolyn Evans Bakus; two sons, Jon (Jeannine) Bakus and Jerry Bakus; his grandchildren, Jason (Jonna) Bakus, Jodie (Steven) Elder and Melissa Chatfield; his great grandchildren, Jack and Livi Bakus; Marcus and Nolan Elder; Zachary (Kayla) Chatfield; Mariah (Michael) Stone and Sophie Chatfield; two great great grandchildren, Gabriel Chatfield and Madilyn Stone; his step children, Kathy (Carson) Gibson; Diana Fick; Lee Ann Rudy Hunter (Rudy) and their families. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Larson Bakus and his second wife, Arlene Nellett Bakus; his son, Jeff A. Bakus; two sisters, Ruby Sherman and Ruth Lanker. At the request of Mr. Bakus cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will take place Monday, August 29, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. Officiating will be Rev. David E. Hakes followed by Military Honors conducted by the Bay County Veterans Council and the U.S. Navy. Private inurnment will take place in Floral Gardens Cemetery. The family will be present at the funeral home on Monday to receive family and friends from 12:00 o'clock Noon until the time of services.
